The bumble-bee orchid use to grow on semi-dry, calciferous ground. You will find it on semi-dry and limestone-grassland, in light pinewoods and bosky slopes.
It is widespread across much of Europe from Britain and Spain to Turkey and Romania.
There has been considerable confusion over the correct name of this species. It is calles as well Ophrys fuciflora, but many authors have called it Ophrys holoserica, but O. holoserica (Burm.f.) Greuter is a synonym of a different species,Ophrys apifera, the bee orchid. 1)
