Habitat

It grows in tundra and rocky moorland, usually between 1500 up to 3200 m altitude in the south of its range but down to sea level in the Arctic

S. herbacea is adapted to survive in harsh environments, and has a wide distribution on both sides of the North Atlantic, in arctic northwest Asia, northern Europe, Greenland, and eastern Canada, and further south on high mountains, south to the Pyrenees, the Alps and the Rila in Europe, and the northern Appalachian Mountains in the eastern United States.

The dwarf willow is one of the smallest woody plants in the world. It typically grows to only 2-10 cm in height, with spreading prostrate branches,growing just underground forming open mats. It is a relict of the iceage fauna and was a important food plant of the wooly mammoth.




Description of the model:

The model is a combination of original subterranean parts and artificial above ground part. The branches and leaves are produced using high quality epoxy resin.
The models were coloured using UV-resistant acrylic paint and varnish. Modelmaker: Susanne Klein


Dimension:

The leaves are 2 to 10 mm in size. The model is a special design and can  not be replicated as shown. We are able to produce the over ground parts for other special designs.
